A lecture by Kate Briggs on the question of form, written in close conversation with John Dewey’s Art as Experience. Form was considered in relation to the lecture itself, to teaching writing in the art school, to art, nature and everyday experience.

Led by Vivian Sky Rehberg the seminar focused on the theories of creativity and experience that emerged from British psychoanalyst and artist Marion Milner’s writings, speculating about their value in thinking about and writing about contemporary art.

Developed through research from the exhibition Invitation to Forms, Nina Wakeford offered materials on the form of ‘the smile’ conceived as an injunction to perform femininity and as a gesture for (machine) recognition.

Exploring the potential of letters, this seminar examined the relation to time, truth-telling, confession, the impossibility of communication and the sheer physical pleasure of the material culture around the letter and mail system.
